In Windows XP With JAWS
Searching on Google or Yahoo with Internet explorer
Go to Desktop…Windows key and M
Press the letter I until you hear…Internet Explorer.
Press enter
You will then be on your Internet home page.
If it is not Google or Yahoo, do the following.
Press the alt key and d at the same time.
Press the backspace several times until you hear blank.
Now type or cut from this page the following web address.
Or
Press enter
(Make sure there are no spaces in the above addresses.
Now press the letter f
This should place you on the search engine’s search box
If you press enter you will hear…forms mode on.
Now type the word or topic that you would like to search for on the Internet.
If it is more than one word it might be helpful to put “ in front and in back of the words.
Now press the plus key on the num pad and you will hear…forms mode off
Now arrow down once until you hear… Search button
Press enter
The program is now searching for your topic.
Arrow down until you hear…Results 1
Now arrow down to you hear the topic you would like to read about.
You must enter an Internet site by pressing on the link
Below the link you might hear a short description of the site.
There are usually about 10 links for different sites pertaining to your search on a page.
If you have read these sites and do not find anything, there will be numbers below the search to give you more options on page 2, 3, and so on.
HINT if you are on a web page that you do not wish to read, you can usually press the back button – or insert and the F8 key to go back.
If these do not work press alt F4 to go out of the Internet all together.
Hint: Do not give personal information on the Internet unless you know the site and its security policy or unless the http has an S at the end for a secure site (https)
